Over the last year, China and the EU have presented robust commitments to address the climate crisis. China has committed to peak CO2 emissions before 2030 and the EU will decrease GHG emissions by, at least, 55% by the same date. In the longer term both strive for net zero GHG emissions by 2050 and 2060 respectively.

Recently the EU and China have prepared policies to implement these objectives. On 14 July the EU presented its “Fit for 55” climate policy package to deliver the GHG reduction target in a holistic manner. In parallel, China has launched its national carbon market and is finalising its carbon peaking implementation plan. This event is the occasion to exchange views on recent progress regarding EU and Chinese climate policies to strengthen a common understanding ahead of a successful COP26 where the world will be looking for ambition and leadership.
